Speaking Encouraging Words

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up. According to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

Encouragement 101

A simple definition of encouragement is the action of lifting someone up, giving support, confidence and hope. Like love, encouragement is an action we can choose. We live in a world of hurt and doubt, there are so many things that can tear us down causing discouragement. Discouragement is like a thief that steals your joy, laughter, peace and love.

Who needs encouraged?

We all need a word of encouragement. So often it is easy for people to focus on the negative rather than the positive. Criticizing others is often easy, but praising people can take effort, but it is worth it. Words are powerful, especially positive and uplifting ones. Being encouragers will change your life as well as the lives of others, so make encouraging others part of you life. The best encouragers are the ones who live it!

Thought to Remember

Throughout the New Testament we are taught the principles of caring for people. We simply need to grow as encouragers and we have the Word of God to teach us.
